Titles were
meant to be exaggerated, right? ;P
Well,
nothing much has happened this week -- considering school only reopened today, after our too-short 4-day break, and we've gotten back our Economics CT3 papers & still haven't heard about our LAN results or Math CT2.
Econs pretty much sucked
big time in my class today -- this is probably the worst result all of us have gotten so far.
Chiew Nee topped the class with a 29/35 (:P I knew she was going to hit the ceiling far beyond the rest of us! Her memory power is, like, wo-ow... sigh... but I don't think just memorizing would help everybody...
Topic 4: Macroeconomic Objectives is in the syllabus just to mess with our heads, really!)... but all jokes aside, I'm really glad I passed the exam
(passing mark is 46%), but I'm pretty disappointed that I didn't do as well as I would've liked (only managed a 26/35)...
Tragedy has still befallen H1 -- almost half of the students in my class failed, I gathered, from the way Mrs Goh has been complaining about us.
Ah.. boring academic talk aside, I made
a very interesting discovery last week! By closely scrutinising my classmates' personal blogs & comparing them to my class blog (
http://www.h1isrocks.blogspot.com), I figured out who the mysterious h1moderator is! I was even more surprised when I found out my guess was correct, hehe, but now the problem is that all my classmates are constantly asking me, "
Hey Sha-Lene, who is h1moderator? Tell la.. tell la... tell me, I won't tell anyone wan... tell la... come la... dun liddat la..."............ and I am getting a tad tired of saying, "
I cannot tell la... sorry la, but at least you know that if you ever tell me a secret, you know I can keep it... hahaha..." or in worst-case scenarios: "
Eh never mind la, not important oso" or "
Wait ar, I go toilet".
Hmm... on another update, I've begun to find the joys of having a
Friendster account! Well, actually, no -- I'm just trying to
convince myself that Friendster is every bit as great as I thought it would be. The testimonials are fun, and posting up photos are fun, but I've already got a blog that can do all that. :( Ahhhh well.... at least now my friends will stop asking me to open a Friendster account. Heheh! :P
All righty... if you've read up to this far, it's time to turn this post into something
a little juicier. Loyal readers deserve mild gossip! XD
You see, everyone in my class is now rushing against time to complete the ESL projects (stupid darndest things; if I were feeling kind enough, I'd prolly photocopy mine and give it to the juniors, haha!) -- and my ESL lecturer has turned our lessons these few days into "consultation hours" for the investigative study.
Personally, I still haven't finished my Annotated Bibliography & final report. *scowls sadly*
But anyway, today my teacher was in a
pretty foul mood, and she snapped at three of my classmates as soon as class began, because they went up to her with the almost-finished projects to clear up some questions. She said that they've been
hogging her for the past few lessons, and other students didn't have a chance to ask their share of questions. Basically, she was accusing those students of being
selfish,
inconsiderate, and
overly-competitive at the same time. *whistles* I'm sure as hell glad that I was too lazy to move my arse to ask any questions
immediately as she sat down at her desk, then.. hahaha... me & Meera were still shuffling aside notes from the previous class, heehornk... I guess sometimes it unbelievably pays to be a
slowpoke?
The thing is --
although I respect my ESL lecturer for trying to stand up for the less-driven students (who didn't ask her questions in previous lessons), I feel that it isn't anyone's fault BUT the fault of those students who had questions, but did not persist to ask her.
How can the fingers be pointed at my classmates who were, in fact, concerned enough about their schoolwork to bother asking questions in the first place?
Since when did the school system turn to a system where students actually got reprimanded for trying to get a better job done? Of course, there
are two sides to this story -- where students who are perhaps, too polite or too shy; who
had questions -- didn't have the chance to ask them because they couldn't compete with pushier (sorry for the word of choice, heh ;P), more initiative-driven students.
Haha, besides
pointlessly contradicting my own train of thought, something weird happened in class. I think my ESL lecturer can bring out the worst in my friends sometimes! And I'm not just being paranoid -- she's really hard to please, and is
so tired of students' antics (not paying attention in class, everyone asking the same question over and over...). She's not, you know, a teacher like
Sean (our class ex-mentor -- famously young, enthusiastic & motivated). Oh, by the way, for those of you who I told that he's 40, sorry -- he lied to us, it turns out he's, like, 27 this year! -_-"
Bottom line, though: I feel so sorry for Ming doll, who is, more often that not, the subject of our lecturers' nitpicking. Who says teachers aren't bias? Even Rameera gets the bad end of the unfairness sometimes!
Exhibit A: Mr Chong once went around the class checking if we brought our Math textbooks, and it so happened that neither Ming nor I brought them (just that one gallopin' day)! Then, he said gravely to us, "Bring your textbooks next time, or I won't let you into class". Not very accustomed to being told off by teachers nowadays, it didn't really strike a chord in me (I didn't recognise it as being picked on, so I just nodded, hahaha I'm quite stupid, really). But Ming recognised the unfairness of it! Some of our classmates were talking and not paying attention at all, and we were both following the lesson -- so why pick on the students who were listening? Why not those who were acting as if there was no teacher in class? -_-"
Exhibit B: ESL draft. Well, Rameera felt this one was marked really unfairly, although I kinda think that marks were awarded more on effort than on the actual presented work. I suppose that's good for students who are not so bright, but put in a lot of effort -- as opposed to smarter students who are somewhat lazier & didn't try so hard. Mrs Banu clearly awards marks based on subjective evaluation as well, and it's really hard to accept the fact that teachers aren't robots. XD
