Weekend with a big "W"

This weekend totally doesn't feel like a weekend!

We had an Accounts test yesterday, using the MYOB software to create our own accounts. I had a bit of trouble with one of the journal entries & one of the balance day adjustments, but besides that, I think I did ok la... won't fail, don't know if can score. 10% internal assessment. Aihs.

But after the test, Mum took me out for a treat! Went shopping (haven't been shopping in ages! But mum's taken me out twice this week already, haha must be some sort of a record for me! And on a school week, too! heehee) at Carrefour... had lunch there, the food court there's actually pretty good! Bought groceries & some new clothes (finally got myself a "formal" shirt, with collars & starchy sleeves!) including another skirt. Hehe! This time it's a floral print one. I still can't wait to wear the lengthy top I got from Atria the other day. But I guess I should wait until I've slimmed down more first... too much of arm exposed with that top. Sigh.

So... I was planning to get started on my Economics assignment tonight, but I haven't been very successful at it. All I managed to do was bookmark the websites. I've just been blog-hopping & photoshopping things tonight... want to see some of what I've wasted my time doing (nothing) for? Hehe ... for fun only okay! Don't laugh!

Hmm... first up, me & Rameera camwh*ring at Student Services when we had 15 minutes left of break-time (with nothing better to do)...

And this next one... well, I wanted to take pictures from the ESL tutorial to form a collage, but I couldn't arrange them nicely... and Seng Ming was in the majority of the pictures that turned out nice... so... lucky for him I guess! And I wanted to type a text, so this was the best I could come up with! :P It's quite funny mar, no?

"how blur can you get weih?"

Dear readers,

If you have scrolled down to the previous entry, you'll realise that I've already introduced today's topic for discussion: the absolute blurness of the goofball you all know (and love!).

Bouncy 5

Scenario 1
Supposed to park car in petrol station to pump petrol. Parked too far away. Pump cord couldn't reach!

Scenario 2
Wore skirt, intended to be more graceful. Saw Kat in the morning, put bag on flat surface & walked towards her... only to hear a dropping noise behind me. Bag had dropped into a pile of leaves.

Scenario 3
Kat was telling Tai Jia how my mum would shout at me when I drive. Tai Jia said "I can see why" and before I could retort to that, I stumbled in my high heels -- and he said "That's one of the reasons why". Ha, ha, ha.

Scenario 4
DJ crew at bus stop were awkwardly quiet. Thought noise was going to explode inside my internal organs. Was suddenly curious to find out who won, Argentina or Germany? "Hey! Who won the football game yesterday?" Responses varied from "There was no game yesterday weih! HAHAHA!" to "How blur can you get weih?"

Scenario 5
Mum's car passes by after she pumps petrol and all. Everybody looked, I looked. Everybody noticed something odd, I didn't. "Eh, what happened to your car ***? What did you do it?" "Huh? What happened to my car?? *calls mum* Hey, apparently something's fallen off from the car... OHHH ... I see, ha ha ha okay okay." Everybody stares at me in anticipation. "Yah, it turns out the *** was like that for ages already..." "And you didn't notice......?"

Scenario 6
Was doing some exercises on MYOB before the Accounts test today at 11am. Decided to check print quota, because I had topped up 100 pages with RM10 yesterday. When it said "81 pages", I was a little too peeved! They had PROMISED me that the process would be complete overnight! Grabbed my Student I.D. and marched right down to the ICT department, swishy skirted and all. Oh, the folks at the ICT were very nice, very apologetic, checked my print quota right away and it said "129 pages". Ah, that's better. Returned to the library, checked print quota again. It still said "81 pages"! I was about to get apoplectic... when I realised... hey, I didn't log on to this computer... An Nie did, and I was just borrowing it.... so it was HER details, HER print quota. Whoops!

Scenario 7
Went for Taylor's College Student Council interview -- mainly to practise being interviewed. Enjoyed it, turns out I aced it. You know how I didn't realise it? All this time I had been thinking I must have been pretty lousy in the interview -- I mean, Ho Sheng told me I had been accepted, but there was no actual written notice? So I didn't really believe him. Well, anyway, it turns out the e-mail (posted below) had been lying in page 3 of my hotmail inbox for almost a month now. Whoopsie daisy! I didn't realise my inbox had MORE than just one page!

Blurness of not checking e-mail

Tutorial Day 2

ESL tutorials for my group is finally over! :D
Photo blogging now! ;P
Why we actually belong in the 70's...

For some funny reason, almost all the girls on our team wanted to have their picture taken with Seng Ming... hmm ........... hahaha!

Above: Melissa & Mingey (different from Mingie i.e. Wen Ming) make a cute couple!

Below: Today's presenters... Rameera's topic "Rape: Should the victims be blamed?", Seng Ming's "Premarital Sex: Should Asians condone it?" & Mel's "Ghosts: Do They Exist?"...

Rameera and Seng Ming. *sighs* I take the best photos. Haha!! (Self praise is no praise? ReALLy? Sure anot....)

Moi? I just felt a little left out. No la... he wanted to have a photo with me mar... hahah... I guess he felt sorry for the poor photographer who was constantly behind the lens, not in front of it. Heehee.

Well, there you have it... ESL tutorial group #2 ... conquering ESL on the 28th & 29th of June, 2006.

P.S: I wore skirt! eek! ahaha! Got positive comments & annoyingly shocked ones (e.g: Man Yee's boyfriend, Alex, stared and pointed at my skirt with his mouth open until I shouted at him, then he laughed and said "hahaha so weird")............

Note: If one does not wear a skirt for too long, one forgets how to take a piss in a skirt. o_O Lift it up? Pull it down? Uhhh........ hahaha!! XD

Tutorial Day 1

Currently in the middle of a ridiculously busy week, which only leads up to a ridiculously busy month.

Wednesday - ESL Tutorial Day 1 (Sara, Keith & me)
Thursday - ESL Tutorial Day 2 (Rameera, Melissa & Seng Ming)
Friday - Accounts Class Test: MYOB Assignment

Thursday -> Tuesday - Economics Assignment
Wednesday - Economics Common Test

Later in July, Malay oral presentations on our investigative studies & Math common test.

Boo.

My ESL tutorial today was a lot more enjoyable that I had dared hoped for! Mrs Banu was in a pretty good mood, and although we encountered a slight glitch at the start, where student X:Drives couldn't be accessed using the computer there -- so all of us had to wait for Sara to transfer her slideshow into a thumbdrive using a library computer. That resulted in us starting at 8.15am.

I must admit that I was really quite worried at that point, because each person was given 15 minutes & I was the last person... and I was pretty much terrified that I was going to have to rush through everything at the end, like what Sarah Goon had to do the previous day during her tutorial!

Fortunately, all's well ends well... Keith started first (so that Sara could catch her breath) and although I had worried and worried about the what-ifs of my behaviour during the group discussions (I was scared that I wouldn't say anything, and get marked down for "not participating in group discussions"), but when it came to it, I found myself speaking okay. *phew* Keith's topic was "War: Does it bring more negative effects?"

Then Sara was next, with her topic "Vandalism: Are teens the only vandals?"... where I asked a question for the Q&A, hehe, "Is there a difference between vandalism and graffiti?" ... and then, about a minute to 8.45am, it was my turn.

Dum dum dum dum!

My topic was "Working mothers versus homemakers: Should mother go to work?" ... and my whole tutorial was 15 minutes and 1 second. Ha, ha, ha... towards the end, it got really funny because I suddenly brought up the male status quo & the dudes started a debate with the girls about the whole men-are-better-than-women issue. Haha! Whoopsie daisy. Well, I saved it with a "Well, I'm afraid that raises a whole different issue altogether, ha, ha" because Mrs Banu was whispering at me to wind it up now... funny people.

Bottom liner: my ESL tutorial group rocks weih!

Everyone works hard, tries hard, co-operates and knows how to still have a little bit of fun doing serious work. :) Melissa, Rameera, Sara, Seng Ming & Keith -- you've earned a big space on my blog!

P.S: Bragging rights for whoever can guess who is driving the car in the picture above! :] People who were in that car are not allowed to guess!

P.P.S: Andrew's wrong - it's not me! Haha! You people ar.. how can the driver be me when I was taking the picture from the back seat, where I was sitting with Carmen? hahahaa!

Ah, grief!

*sniffs*Crying Into Tissue

Korea didn't make it to the next round of 16. Switzerland beat them, 2-0. The second goal being an unfair one, as the dude- who-decides-if-it's-a-goal-or-not didn't realise it was offside. I had to suppress tears. I didn't sleep until 4am to try and support Korea!

Sickened Then woke up at 6.30am to get ready for Parent-Teacher Day... super-early, right? Haha, all to avoid the morning traffic! Then, I drove to Carmen's house to pick her up before going to college!Convertible Female <-- But I didn't look so cool, I wore an amused smile throughout the whole (short) journey coz my mum kept shouting at me, i.e. "Full turn here! I said FULL TURN!" Then she took over the wheel when we stopped at Carmeny's, because my parents don't allow me to drive outside quaint little housing areas near our neighbourhood. Ish. Heeheehee.

Reached college 10 minutes before 8am, so we got a fabulous little parking spot about a stone's throw away from the main gate! Yay! Then we hung out in the car while waiting for An Nie & her mum to arrive (wow, can you believe it only took them 10 minutes to reach college from their house?) and when they did, we all went for breakfast at Cafe Cabana. Long story short: I was st*ffed. (In case you're wondering about the asterisk*, it's a bad word in the society of dieters. ;P)...

Smiley Grad 2Proceeded to the MPH after Carmeny went off for her MUET workshop. Mum and Mrs Quek (lecturer in charge of Winanga-li) met each other (heehee), both of them exchanging the my-gosh-we-both-know-this-girl-is-a-goofball friendlies.

Then my mummy went to see Mrs Banu first, because we only had to see ESL & Math lecturers in the MPH (the others were in different classrooms) & there wasn't anyone in the ESL line yet. Aww Mrs Banu was so nice, she told me mum that I'm a potential straight-A student for all my subjects in the final exams , and that I will hopefully get an A20 for ESL (although I've only been getting A17's for ESL this whole year). Said something about a special cert. Ooo.

Then we went to see Mr Chong, who was trying to hide the long list of bad marks in my class from the parents who were consulting him, haha! Poor guy, he clearly wants to make us do well in exams but it's just not happening... then he told my mum that I tend to talk a lot in class. Shocked Woot! I usually shut up automatically when the lecturer walks into class! But in the case of Math lectures, sometimes I succumb to joining in the far-more-interesting-than-math conversations that take place regularly among my classmates.

And he commented that I seem to be doing a LOT better in ALL the other subjects, compared to Math, which I have consistently gotten a B14 for. I wonder what that means?

Next, went to visit Mr Tong. He was heartily pleased to see my mum again (prolly remembers her from the 1st PTM, and was eager to point out I did well for his subject (A19, which he hopes, like Mrs Banu, to see become an A20 for the final exam & then I can get a special cert). Then he diddled a bit about all my subjects, saying how I absolutely must improve in Math & Econs (both B14's). And then he happily bragged a little bit more about his beautiful Malay paper (haha, which I agree, is really quite beautiful!), and shook mum's hand again before we left.

Then, we went into Mrs Goh's classroom but my gawd the queue was blinking long! So I peeked next door and saw that Ms Yong's line was totally empty. So brought mum there first, while Mrs Goh's line self-clears, haha!

Accounts consultation wasn't very useful, actually none of the consultations were... Ms Yong thought I was doing well enough already (A17, but only just -- coz I got 81, which is the minimum mark for an A grade), and that I didn't have any problems. The only useful thing I learned was that we're not really doing past year questions until later. And for this Friday's assignment (class test), it's 20 minutes for set up, 20 minutes for journal entries, 5 minutes for printing & 5 minutes for checking.

Finally, last lecturer for the day -- Mrs Goh. Still had to wait! Hahaha, her queue was seriously the only one with so many people in it! Met Jaya's auntie, very pretty lady. Then when it was our turn, Mrs Goh was explaining to my mum that Econs gets harder as time passes, so a decrease in marks looks like I'm getting worse but it's not really like that... but she is still disappointed in my performance: "For her standard, I expected better so she must work harder -- do all the exercises, do extra questions and hand up to me"... Then she shared with us her theory that the lack of competition in my class is making me relax. And she said a really complex sentence: "I mean, I find that she is being conscientious but not competitive enough... it's like, everybody else did so badly so my marks are okay what..." ... I guess she's pretty much right, but neither me nor my mummy knew what "conscientious" meant. Haha! Thinking So I checked the dictionary. :]

con·sci·en·tious (knsh-nshs)
adj.
1. Guided by or in accordance with the dictates of conscience; principled: a conscientious decision to speak out about injustice.
2. Thorough and assiduous: a conscientious worker; a conscientious effort to comply with the regulations.

... Maybe she just meant to say that I'm getting lazy. But she was just being nice. ;]

Whole thing finished at 10am for us! Not bad, quite early! :]

P.S: The Programme Director, Mrs Mary Ng, threw in a consultation with us also... *eek*... so she keyed in my info & said that I was doing really well! :] She even checked my TER (81, and it shocked my mum when she found out I've got the highest total score in my class) & said that my ranking is 104/1000. Actually I saw the 104 person, and it says Chan something something, not my name, but they just count from the first TER 81 person. Ohh, hmm, yayy.

And then Mrs Mary Ng told my mum something even cooler! She started reciting statistics & after a reel of them, the conclusion is that the top 25% of the SAM students at Taylor's will get TER 90 and above & that anyone ranked 250 and above is safely in the around TER 90 zone. And apparently, I'm like, top 15% so they think my chances are really good for TER 95 and above! :] I'm so happy! Have to work harder!!

Korea Tour '06

Dinner time pics are so funny!

Petting zoo in Everland!

Some countries are famous for their law enforcement officers... Britain's Buckingham guards, Czech's unmoving soldier-types, ..... and Korea's bicycle policemen. ;P

About to watch Sonogong (the monkey dude) in the 3D theatre -- I loved my 3D glasses!

The bear was so tame! Safari.

Safari bus. Sitting beside grandma, mum behind, grandpa behind mum.

My royal family. Ha, ha, ha.

Lotte World. See how warm it was there, how shiny my face was!

The other youths on the tour: ashley, yoo choong, alex (shan mei), wai kit, ken jin, wai loon.

back-to-school blues

World Cup Fever Must-watch match of the week: 24th June , wee hours of Friday morning (3am) -- South Korea vs. Switzerland! Despite consistently reminding myself that I'm not that much of a football fan, really, and that making it into the World Cup Finals is grand enough an achievement; I still catch myself being worried that Switzerland might, just might, be a tough cookie for Korea to crack. *gulps*

Okay, enough about football -- I'm afraid I haven't got the time to blog about the Korea tour tonight, but I'll try one day (maybe in December, after my final exams, hahaha!)... but I'll seize this prime moment to poison your thoughts with academia. Hahaha. However that's spelled. ;]

My parents got my progress report yesterday:

Math B14 ... Econs B14 ... Accts A17 ... ESL A17 ... Malay A19

American Idol

Lots of my college mates have been asking me how the college counts the preliminary TERs, so this is as far as I understand how they count it for the piece of paper they show to parents (like during this Saturday's Parent-Teacher Meeting)... but I'm just going to post it up here yeah... and please remember that this is NOT how the actual TER is calculated. This is only for the college progress reports! The real TERs will probably be much better.

E.g: TER = 14 + 14 + 17 + 17 + 19 = 81

Besides bummerific exam talk, guess who passed her driving test on Monday? Smile I am SO happy! I can't wait to go and collect my license and 'P' stickers from Uncle Chua tomorrow!

I had to miss classes on Monday because of the driving test... Perplexed Hahaha and I still managed to get to college on time for the 2-3pm Accounts lecture. Luckily Esther Phung took the driving test on the same day as I did, so we were a lot less bored than we would have been if we went alone! I was SO nervous, because most of my friends usually failed something the first time -- but I was incredibly lucky that day!

I did the road test first, sometime between 10.30am and 11am; and the test was pretty smooth sailing because there was like, no traffic at all when I was driving... all the traffic lights were green... I don't even remember stopping the car ... and the examiner was talking on his cellphone at one point & he was in such a good mood -- he even reminded me where to signal & once, even told me when to brake. Mush Christmas came early this year! Just passed with a 16/20. Heehee...

Then, after waiting for another hour or so, it was my turn to do the slope, side-parking & 3-point turn. Was a nervous wreck! You know, I was so determined to pass the test that I had practised the three things from 8am to 3pm the previous day (Sunday) at SDC (Safety Driving Centre, the place I took my lessons & was tested at). I turned brown from the sun (have to wind down window) but it was worth it! Was overwhelmed with euphoria after passing the tests!

Football Fever

Hola my darling friends!

College's started again, and we got all our midyear exam results yesterday. It was the darndest thing. I'll blog about it when I have the time -- now I'm just squeezing in time at the library during free period (gotta scramble to class in 5 minutes!) to post up this picture:

Have fun watching the World Cup, everyone! ;P And the pic above is not meant to give a violent message or anything, hahaha, I just couldn't figure out any other way to fit in the tattoo and my face without making it look boring. My first chance at playing with the photoshop thing that Denise installed into my comp last weekend! :)

(but the temporary tattoo is real la -- not photoshopped)

I'll try to blog soon (about my vacation in Korea & other chronicles, haha) -- unfortunately I don't have Internet connection at home for the time being... something's gone funny with the wiring. :[

See you all real soon! Take care! XD
