*sniffs*
Korea didn't make it to the next round of 16.
Switzerland beat them, 2-0. The second goal being an unfair one, as the
dude- who-decides-if-it's-a-goal-or-not didn't realise it was offside. I had to suppress tears. I didn't sleep until
4am to try and support Korea!

Then woke up at 6.30am to get ready for Parent-Teacher Day... super-early, right? Haha, all to avoid the morning traffic! Then, I drove to Carmen's house to pick her up before going to college!

<-- But I didn't look so cool, I wore an amused smile throughout the whole (short) journey coz my mum kept shouting at me, i.e. "Full turn here! I said FULL TURN!" Then she took over the wheel when we stopped at Carmeny's, because my parents don't allow me to drive outside quaint little housing areas near our neighbourhood. Ish. Heeheehee.

Reached college 10 minutes before 8am, so we got a
fabulous little parking spot about a stone's throw away from the main gate! Yay! Then we hung out in the car while waiting for An Nie & her mum to arrive (wow, can you believe it only took them 10 minutes to reach college from their house?) and when they did, we all went for breakfast at
Cafe Cabana. Long story short: I was st*ffed. (In case you're wondering about the asterisk*, it's a bad word in the society of dieters. ;P)...

Proceeded to the MPH after Carmeny went off for her MUET workshop. Mum and Mrs Quek (lecturer in charge of Winanga-li) met each other (heehee), both of them exchanging the
my-gosh-we-both-know-this-girl-is-a-goofball friendlies.
Then my mummy went to see
Mrs Banu first, because we only had to see ESL & Math lecturers in the MPH (the others were in different classrooms) & there wasn't anyone in the ESL line yet. Aww Mrs Banu was so nice, she told me mum that I'm a potential straight-A student for all my subjects in the final exams , and that I will hopefully get an A20 for ESL (although I've only been getting A17's for ESL this whole year). Said something about a special cert. Ooo.
Then we went to see
Mr Chong, who was trying to hide the long list of bad marks in my class from the parents who were consulting him, haha! Poor guy, he clearly wants to make us do well in exams but it's just not happening... then he told my mum that I tend to talk a lot in class.

Woot! I usually shut up automatically when the lecturer walks into class! But in the case of Math lectures, sometimes I succumb to joining in the far-more-interesting-than-math conversations that take place regularly among my classmates.
And he commented that I seem to be doing a LOT better in ALL the other subjects, compared to Math, which I have consistently gotten a B14 for. I wonder what that means?
Next, went to visit
Mr Tong. He was heartily pleased to see my mum again (prolly remembers her from the 1st PTM, and was eager to point out I did well for his subject (A19, which he hopes, like Mrs Banu, to see become an A20 for the final exam & then I can get a special cert). Then he diddled a bit about all my subjects, saying how I absolutely must improve in Math & Econs (both B14's). And then he happily bragged a little bit more about his beautiful Malay paper (haha, which I agree, is really quite beautiful!), and shook mum's hand again before we left.
Then, we went into Mrs Goh's classroom but my gawd the queue was blinking long! So I peeked next door and saw that Ms Yong's line was totally empty. So brought mum there first, while Mrs Goh's line self-clears, haha!
Accounts consultation wasn't very useful, actually none of the consultations were...
Ms Yong thought I was doing well enough already (A17, but only just -- coz I got 81, which is the minimum mark for an A grade), and that I didn't have any problems. The only useful thing I learned was that we're not really doing past year questions until later. And for this Friday's assignment (class test), it's 20 minutes for set up, 20 minutes for journal entries, 5 minutes for printing & 5 minutes for checking.
Finally, last lecturer for the day --
Mrs Goh. Still had to wait! Hahaha, her queue was seriously the only one with so many people in it! Met Jaya's auntie, very pretty lady. Then when it was our turn, Mrs Goh was explaining to my mum that Econs gets harder as time passes, so a decrease in marks looks like I'm getting worse but it's not really like that... but she is still disappointed in my performance: "For her standard, I expected better so she must work harder -- do all the exercises, do extra questions and hand up to me"... Then she shared with us her theory that the lack of competition in my class is making me relax. And she said a really complex sentence: "I mean, I find that she is being conscientious but not competitive enough... it's like, everybody else did so badly so my marks are okay what..." ... I guess she's pretty much right, but neither me nor my mummy knew what "conscientious" meant. Haha!

So I checked the dictionary. :]
con·sci·en·tious
(knsh-nshs)
adj.
1. Guided by or in accordance with the dictates of conscience; principled: a conscientious decision to speak out about injustice.
2. Thorough and assiduous: a conscientious worker; a conscientious effort to comply with the regulations.
... Maybe she just meant to say that I'm getting lazy. But she was just being nice. ;]
Whole thing finished at 10am for us! Not bad, quite early! :]
P.S: The Programme Director, Mrs Mary Ng, threw in a consultation with us also... *eek*... so she keyed in my info & said that I was doing really well! :] She even checked my TER (81, and it shocked my mum when she found out I've got the highest total score in my class) & said that my ranking is 104/1000. Actually I saw the 104 person, and it says Chan something something, not my name, but they just count from the first TER 81 person. Ohh, hmm, yayy. And then Mrs Mary Ng told my mum something even cooler! She started reciting statistics & after a reel of them, the conclusion is that the top 25% of the SAM students at Taylor's will get TER 90 and above & that anyone ranked 250 and above is safely in the around TER 90 zone. And apparently, I'm like, top 15% so they think my chances are really good for TER 95 and above! :] I'm so happy! Have to work harder!!
