Of Karaoke & Sleepovers

~ HaPpY NeW yEaR, mi amors!! ~

January 2006 is really here now, and a whole new year has begun! I hope everyone had a really good time celebrating the new year!~ I haven't been blogging for the past few days -- been pretty caught up with end-of-year activities, hehe!

We went to the Red Box Karaoke (at The Curve) for Carmen's 17th birthday! It was so FUN!! I didn't really sing much, taking into consideration my blocked nose and sore throat; but it was very entertaining to watch your best girlfriends singing -- especially Cheryl's occassional deep-male-voice-mimicking (gives you quite a shock, because she does it suddenly when all the other girls are singing in high-pitched girly voices) & Sue-Mae's attempt at rapping! Hahaha, they're very cool people to be around!

The food at Red Box! Not bad, eh? The drinks were a bit annoying because there's no free refill (and it's a karaoke, where we need free refills more than anything else).. but besides that, it wasn't too bad at all -- not too costly. There were six of us, and five of us treated Carmen -- but it only cost about RM 20 per person, for three hours (11am - 2pm).

That's Azrina on then left, and Carmen on the right! Two of Malaysia's greatest gals, hehe!

The people who really sang at the karaoke! Cheryl (laughing) and Sue-Mae (in a really cute skirt, but you can't really see the whole outfit in the picture). I'll see if I can get more pictures from the rest of the crew when I see them on MSN -- almost everyone brought their own camera that day, haha!

That's all of them! Our girls' day out, hurrah -- everyone looks so happy! :D

You know, at times like this, I get really annoyed at my camera because it doesn't photograph well in dark places. Sue-Mae's camera is fabulous, it's screen is huge and all the photos turn out bright as daylight.

Ooh, and after our karaoke session, we went shopping! The Curve is so different from other shopping complexes, like 1-Utama and Sunway Pyramid. So much of it is in open space, but despite humid M'sian weather, it's pretty cool -- something different. Oh haha and the picture above was taken in the fitting room -- I ended up buying the green bolero thingy and the black top I tried on! *happy smile* I love fitting room mirrors! oh YEAH BY THE WAY, haha did you notice that me and Sue-Mae are wearing the same outfit (except for my jeans & her skirt)?

Ching Ling and Alison slept over at my place on Friday night! Alison's visiting from Australia, and she's gone to Ipoh to visit her relatives -- but she's coming back here again after the 1st week of January! She looks so Australian right now, haha -- and it seems like the Australian teenagers are a lot like the British teenagers, except they have different accents and use different slangs. Even when I met Denise's cousin, David (Australian uni student), his accent was really difficult for me to understand. I actually found Vanessa's friends' accents much easier to digest; maybe because of what I watch on TV?

Hmm anyway, speaking of slangs -- foreign colloquials (darn, I forgot how to spell this word) always fascinate me! Okay, like in Australia, "wagging" means "ponteng". So instead of saying "Hey are you going to ponteng school tomorrow?", they say "Hey are you going to be wagging school tomorrow?" Besides that, there are Australian colloquial terms like "bludge" and "dodgy". Hehe.

Along the same lines, Brit teens have very different slangs from M'sian youth! Haha, "taking the piss" means something like "making fun of" and "teasing". So if you make fun of someone, they say, "Hey, are you taking the piss?" There's also "get pissed" which means "get drunk" -- e.g: "You planning to get pissed tonight?" The first time someone said that to me in London, I was outraged, haha: "What! Who's peeing on me?!"... there are also terms like kankles, chavs, townies, and truckloads more!
