A College Student's Blog! ;D
Hola mi amors!
A whole new world has opened its gateway for us -- college life has begun! And I must say, I really love TCSJ (oh acronyms! It stands for Taylor's College Subang Jaya. It's funny how we've all heard of "Taylor's College" before, but not "TCSJ"; yet on TCSJ grounds, the acronym is resolutely plastered everywhere!).
Besides the fact that I have to get up at a most ungodly hour (5.45am) for five days a week, it's been a fantastic experience! I think the word I've used most often (almost incessantly, really!) this past week is "WOW". I know it's really childish and all, but I can't resist -- everything seems ten times more interesting when you first tell yourself that it's going to be fascinating. Never lose the wow-factor, dear readers! Of course, you may not want to go so far as to point excitedly at the high-tables in the cafeteria (like I did, which kind of attracted weird stares) and giggle at the flat-screen computers in the library (at which the librarian will "shussshhhh" at you for doing... hahaha!).
To sum up my first 3 days of being a TCSJ student, I'll just say... I guess it's not so different from secondary school after all -- besides more favourable clothing, cellphone & liquid paper use, hair colours, body piercings and more facilities (air-conditioning! :D); it's pretty much the same. There are, of course, small differences, such as not calling the lecturer "teacher", and saying "madam", "sir" or the lecturer's name instead ... making new friends who are from all over the country (this part is awesome! I've been making friends in my classes, in the corridors, in the library & on the bus) ... heaving a painfully heavy bag to college (the timetables are not like secondary school when you only have a few of the subjects you take every day, in TCSJ we are taught all the subjects we take, EVERY day) ...
Hmm so what have we done so far in college? 1st day was orientation, getting to know each other & our mentors (my class mentor is Mr Yee Boon Shan, or we can call him Sean -- he's a very nice lecturer, I guess we're very lucky to have such an enthusiastic & patient mentor). He even gave us his MSN Messenger contact, hahaha!
2nd day? Meeting our subject lecturers, being told the ground rules of each class, and finding out which books to get for lessons. I'm taking five subjects (all S.A.M. students are, actually, haha) -- Mathematical Studies, English as a Second Language (ESL), Accounting Studies, Economics, Malay (Background Speaker's Level). We also have two compulsory subjects to take, i.e. Moral Education and Malaysian Studies. They're called our LAN subjects or something like that, and I've yet to figure out what L.A.N. stands for!
Accounting Studies and Economics are really interesting subjects -- lots of theories involved are related to our daily lives. And Malay -- well, I've always liked languages! :) Which explains the outbursts of "Hola!" when I answer my cellphone nowadays, and the "mi amor" that I keep calling my friends. I don't use it for everyone, though, haha, so don't worry, I don't go around calling everyone "my love". I only use it for.. hmm... Tse Mun & Denise, who are my two best friends... Chu Jie & Shern Ren, who I feel are truly "friends in need are friends indeed" friends... K Vin & Jonathan, who I've known almost my whole life... all my close friends (or the friends I spend most of my time with) like Carmen, Lee Ting, Su Lynn, Sue-Mae, Wei June, Kathryn, etc... and last but not least, the people who taught me the whole "holaaa mi amorr" phrase -- Vanessa & Rosie! Thanks for teaching me new things k!
I may, of course, knowing me; get bored of the amusing Spanish phrases eventually and revert back to "heya!" but until then... enjoy the weekend, everybody! And the public holiday on Tuesday -- 5 Cengal of 2005 is having a class outing then, I think -- like a farewell gathering for Mark, who's going to Trinity in February... :( We're all going to miss our Add Math genius & future dentist friend! Parting is so dreadful, really -- just like Ern Sheong going to S'pore & Wei June going to National Service in Beranang (but at least she's coming back in a couple of months!). And we can't even decide where we want to have lunch. Hahaha~
